European Waste Prevention Week 2020
COOK AND DON’T THROW 21/11/2020 – 29/11/2020
Waste Prevention Week is an initiative to promote at European level the implementation of public awareness actions on sustainable resource use and waste management (reduction, reuse, recycling – 3Rs) and a clean-up day (let’s clean up), culminating in the penultimate week of November.
In Cyprus, the coordinator for the Waste Prevention Week is the Department of Environment.
For 2020, the week of 21 November – 29 November 2020 has been set.
In this context, the Department of Environment invites all cooking schools (public and private), cooking shows of TV stations, as well as other restaurants and hotels that may be interested, to include in their teaching, shows and menus respectively, new tactics to reduce food waste, starting from the week 21/11/2020 to 29/11/2020.
The Department of Environment, also recommends that cooking lessons using leftover foods (either leftover food, food that would otherwise be thrown away but can be used, etc.) to create new dishes be included in the teaching programme of the schools. Similarly, this action can also be implemented and promoted through the cooking/pastry shows on TV stations, as well as in restaurants and hotels. These dishes could have a lower charge for the customer of the latter.
All schools, TV stations and businesses (restaurants/hotels) interested in joining this programme are requested to fill in the form below and send it by 18/11/2020 to the Department of Environment at ngeorgίoυ@envίronment.moa.gov.cy.
The action will be published on the European Week for Waste Prevention website http://www.ewwr.eu
