LIFE – FOODPrint SEMINARS TO STUDENTS – Launching activities with Public Schools of Higher Vocational Education and Training – MIEEK
In order to raise awareness and present good practices to reduce food waste, the LIFE – FOODPrint campaign starts on Monday, 22 November 2021 a cycle of seminars with students in related professions and sectors.
The FOODPrint campaign extends its collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, and in particular with the Public School of Higher Vocational and Technical Education MIECK, which offers two-year study programmes (Diploma -NQF 5b, 120ECTS) in three areas. All programmes are assessed and accredited by the Higher Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation Body (HQAA). Attendance is completely free of charge and all students are eligible for government-student sponsorship based on criteria.
Students of the MIEEK have the opportunity to learn useful information about the problem of food waste at European level and in Cyprus, based on the surveys of the FOODPrint campaign.
In Cyprus, according to the surveys, food waste amounts to 182 kilos per person every year, i.e. about half a kilo per day! This could be largely avoided and consumed, saving money, protecting the environment and giving to those in need.
Cooperation with the MIEEKs focuses on training students as professionals in hotels, restaurants, other catering establishments and on using good practices to reduce waste.
There will be 5 seminars in this cycle in MIEEKs all over Cyprus. The FOODPrint team’s cooperation will be extended in the new year, with similar presentations in Evening Schools, Technical Secondary Education and other higher education institutions.Participating students will receive educational material of the FOODPrint campaign aimed at raising awareness.
