The FOODPrint team meets Boroume.gr COOPERATION PLATFORM: No portion of food wasted
Online meeting and exchange of experiences
Focusing on the creation of a pilot national network of social food supply that is also surplus in Cyprus, the FOODPrint team organized an online meeting to share experiences with the non-profit organization Boroume Gr, whose main mission is to reduce food waste and fight malnutrition throughout Greece.
The meeting was held online with the participation of the head of Boroume Gr Alexandros Theodoridis who shared with the Cypriot partners of the LIFE – FOOD Print project the good practices that he has been implementing for 10 years in Greece.
The online meeting took place on Thursday, 11 November 2021 and representatives of the partnership participated from the Cypriot side: Natasha Ioannou and Victor Pallikaras – Friends of the Earth Cyprus who developed the initiative of creating FOODPrint Food Donor and Recipient Cooperation Platform, Marios Papageorgiou – OEB who referred to the actions developed with businesses, Maria Takka – Paprounas Sustainable Development who referred to the consultations with the local government and Natalia Georgiou representing the Department of Environment.
The meeting was organised and coordinated by the journalist Kyriakos Pierides, Director of Opinion and Action.
A. Theodorides analysed the way the Greek non-profit organisation develops its initiatives, forming a nationwide network of donor businesses, bakeries, hotels, supermarkets, food and catering chains and more than 400 charitable institutions that receive food on their own responsibility to ensure that hygiene rules are observed for people in need.
The FOODPrint team referred to the experiences gained in Cyprus, as this is the first time that such a pilot Partnership Platform has been created.
Of significant value was the exchange of views on legislative issues as European directives on avoiding food waste are being promoted and will be implemented in the coming years in all Member States, as well as further initiatives for the participation of businesses with a certification mark for non-wasteful food.
The two sides agreed to stay in constant communication by exchanging the rich audiovisual and printed material they have produced and by expanding their cooperation in the framework of the FOODPrint campaign.
